Have you noticed this RSS icon online?
JD introduced me to the concept of RSS feeds about a year ago, and I'm a big fan! Just in case you don't have a techno savvy hubby like mine, I thought I'd pass on the info. Clearly I'm no expert in this area, but I think you'll get the gist.
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It enables you to get all the latest information from all your favorite websites in one location so that you don't have to visit each and every website one at a time. I have tons of friends who have blogs that I enjoy checking out. Now instead of going and seeing if they've posted anything recently or trying to even remember what blogs to check, I can go to one place (my RSS reader) and see who has added something new. It's kind of like one stop shopping.
In order to subscribe to a blog's RSS feed, you have to have access to an RSS Reader. Some popular free ones include Google Reader, Bloglines, and Newsgator. I use Mac Mail for my friends' blogs and Shrook, a free reader for Mac OS X, for other blogs that I follow.
How do you subscribe to blogs? Often sites have a link somewhere on their sidebar. Or you can click the RSS icon in the address bar next to the URL (this does not work in all browsers but it does in Firefox which is what I use.) As an example, both of these options are available on www.themcculleys.com.
I think subscribing to RSS feeds makes alot of sense. It saves you time by helping you to not miss any news and keeps you from needlessly checking blogs that haven't been updated. So what think ye? Want to give it a try?
