I was spending some time today with a friend discussing the things that he was learning in God's Word. He mentioned how he was a very simple man and that he was so thankful to the Lord that he didn't have the gift of gab so that the words that came to his mind and out of his mouth would be those things he learned in Scripture. This was so evident in our time together...I can't even count how many times he quoted Scripture as he was explaining how it was impacting his life. I was so encouraged and refreshed to hear the Word of the Lord just roll of his tongue....and better yet to hear it in the context of his life circumstances.
I don't consider myself a "gabber" but I often am not short on thoughts or opinions. In fact I am all to often thinking instead of listening...a fault I'm really trying to work on. I was so thankful that the Lord reminded me of the role of His Word in my life. I am looking to the Lord to revive my appetite for speaking His thoughts more regularly and Jim's thoughts a bit less!
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
and altogether righteous.
10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the comb.
11 By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:7-11
