Well folks, it appears that winter has arrived in our lovely part of Colorado. Large fluffy snowflakes started slowly dressing up our neighborhood's lawns and rooftops this afternoon. Almost mid-November ~ not too bad in my opinion. I'm actually kind of excited.
Each year as the leafless trees catch winter's first snowfall, it's another reminder that God does indeed keep his promises {Gen 8:22}. Do the trees have to be leafless you say? Absolutely not. As I recall, our first year in Canada we were graced with a beautiful blanket of snow in September. Now that got two young Texans wondering what they'd got themselves into for sure!
**So yes, November snow is perfectly fine by me.**
After we put the kids to bed tonight, I declared to JD that this snowfall signifies that the time has finally come to put our electric blanket back on the bed. Yippee!! I think his exact response was, "Maybe." Maybe? What's up with maybe? Okay, clearly his level of excitement came nowhere near to matching mine. Maybe he will need to be prevailed upon a bit more. But I am predicting that he will have a change of heart soon. Say maybe by around 10:30 p.m. or so tonight? Call me optimistic.
**Don't ever underestimate a Texan, turned-Canadian, turned-Coloradan girl's love for her electric blanket!**
Earlier this afternoon, A&A donned their new winter coats to go out & explore in the snow. For their feet though they had to settle for rain boots since they've both managed to outgrow last year's snow boots. No surprise there; it seems like I'm buying new shoes every month for these critters! It's madness I tell you! Maybe I'll invent some sort of expanding shoe that at least guarantees a good two years of wear. Good idea, eh?
Look closely at the picture below. The blond on the left appears to have made it out the back door without zipping up her jacket, hence the clenched fists and the I'm-about-to-freeze expression on her trying-to-still-smile face. What kind of mom does she have? I would never let my kids do that. Ever. As for the boy's crazed expression...well, who knows? He's a boy.
**Don't feel too sorry for them. Remember that they're Canadians. They're made for this weather!**
So while the kids froze out on the deck I enjoyed my favorite winter vice: hot tea doctored up with way too much sugar and cream. I've recently started drinking some green {good-for-you} teas. But winter's first snowfall deserves to be welcomed by some slowly steeped and perfectly sweetened earl gray creme don't you think?
**So there you have it ~ our welcome to winter!**
